Opening Address Bill Barnard has served as Vice-Chair and since 2007 as Chair of Democrats Abroad U.K, the official overseas arm of the Democratic Party of the United States. After a career as a university professor, author, and university administrator in Alabama, he has lived in Oxford since 1994. His field of research is domestic U.S. politics in the 20th century. Morning Session Dominic Dyer (Chair, Morning sessions) is Founder and Executive Director of the American European Institute. A broadcaster and commentator on a wide range of foreign policy, agriculture and conservation issues, he is also Chief Executive of the Crop Protection Association and Fellow of the British American Project. Professor Francesco Caselli is Director of the Macroeconomics Program at the London School of Economics. Author of many academic papers on both sides of the Atlantic, Professor Caselli was previously Paul Sack Associate Professor of Political Economy Karin Robinson is an political and communications strategist based in London. She was a Regional Field Director for Barack Obama's Presidential campaign, focussed on Americans abroad. Originally from Boston, Karin has had a long career in communications and marketing, and has lived in London for the last ten years. Steve Cook is Vice President of the Hampton Roads Economic Development Alliance, and has worked with a wide variety of US and overseas companies that have located operations in Virginia's Hampton Roads. Defence breakout session Brinley Salzmann has been Exports Director at the Defence Manufacturers Association since 1999. He provides offset, industrial participation and export controls-related assistance to British companies. He is Secretary to the Export Group for Aerospace & Defence (EGAD). Michael Formosa leads the Strategic Advisory Services EMEA office of Jane’s Strategic Advisory Services. Based in London since 2005, he delivers strategic recommendations to governments, defence firms and financial institutions. His office provides market forecasting, price modelling, competitive intelligence and due diligence support. Peter Mayer is a Partner in Forensic and Dispute Services, Deloitte & Touche LLP in London where he specializes in investigations of alleged corruption. He has worked in the field of forensic accounting for more than fifteen years in both New York and London. Troutman Sanders Julie Mendoza is a partner in Troutman Sanders' Washington, D.C. office, where she is head of the firms International Trade practice. Julie has over two decades of experience skillfully defending a broad range of clients in major cases under U.S. import relief law and in U.S. Customs matters. Stuart Pierson is a partner in the firm's Washington, D.C. office, where he is head of the White Collar & Criminal Investigations practice. Stu is experienced in the representation of clients in formal inquiries and investigations for banks, government sub-contractors, directors, and other businesses. Merril Hirsh is a partner in Troutman Sanders' Washington, D.C. office, whose practice focuses on areas of antitrust, securities, intellectual property, class action, and litigation. Charles Hunnicutt is a partner in Troutman Sanders' Washington, D.C. office, whose practice focuses on all aspects of international trade, with particular emphasis on government regulation and international trade. Mike Gardner is a partner in the firm's Norfolk, Virginia office, whose practice is concentrated on government contracting, transportation, and maritime related matters. Mike is experienced in negotiating and protesting government contracts and sub-contracts, and in litigating disputes between industry groups and federal contracts. Trade breakout session Betty Princen-Dignef is a consultant with Virginia International Terminals, an operating company of the Virginia Port Authority (VPA). A Belgian national, Betty was Director of Marketing Europe, Middle East & Africa for the VPA from 1987 to January 2009, based in Brussels.
